Can't get 4g but able to get wifi for IPhone 6

I've done a soft reset, taken the SIM card out but still not able to make any calls.
Next step is to reset all network settings but not sure if I will lose all my contacts, messages etc.

Did you put the SIM back in the phone? If not, you won't be able to get cellular service.
If your SIM is in the phone, go to Settings --> Cellular and make sure your cellular data is toggled on.

Also, you will not lose your contacts or messages from resetting the network settings.

Have you contacted your service provider to see if there is an issue either in your area with a tower or with your account?
