How do Apple devices check subscription status if its offline?

how does apple device check subscription status if its offline

If i download a playlist for offline listening to an ipod touch and the device is offline most of the time how will it know if the apple music subscription is still active and how long will the songs be playable if it cant connect online for say over a long period of time.
