Can I put an after market Solid state drive in a late 2012 iMac?

Model A1418 100-240V
2.7 Intel core i5
8G memory

If so, what do you recommend?

I have been researching this and I am getting confused. Some say that a fan system will not work right if you do this, etc. I installed a SSD in my 2011 MacBook Pro and it is WAY better. Would like to preform a similar upgrade to my iMac if possible. I was looking at a 1TB drive for around $500.
