Why is there an oval with timer in it by my send button?

I cannot see what I'm texting with gray oval and timer where I would write a text message

I've seen a few duplicate threads asking the same question, and one that I cannot answer because I have NEVER EVER experienced anything like that on any of my iPhones from the past as well as my current one. Therefore, I recommend you go to Settings - General - Reset, and then select "Reset All Settings".
