Why cellular data on iPad mini 4 vs wifi w/hotspot on phone?

I heard Rene say he was trading in his iPad mini 4 wifi for a cellular model. We use our iPads wifi with the hot spots on our iPhones. Is there a difference? I can't see spending the extra $ for the device and to add it to my cell plan unless there is a reason to do so! Thanks

Personal preference... And if your phone dies, you still have a useable device anywhere there's cell service.
