Just switched to a new Verizon Router, wi-fi on iPhone 6, New icon showing up?

I just moved and have my new router in my basement. It is the quantum router from Verizon. The quality of connection has been awful every since I got the router and when I connected my iPhone 6 to it, the word "Wi-Fi" now appears next to my wi-fi signal on the top of my iPhone, I've never seen this before. Any help would be great!
