Why doesn't the lock screen passcode show up when I try to unlock my iPhone?

Your passcode does not work to open your 4s? You need to use the correct passcode. If you don't remember, you will need to put the phone in recovery mode and restore. Only way. You may lose anything not backed up.

The passcode isn't suppose to be seen when you enter it. It's a privacy thing. All you need to do is remember what it is and type it in. Once you've done that, you'll be able to get to your home screens.
