Why don't I see DETAILS in the upper right of my messages app?

I have ios 8 on a new iphone 6 and when i open up messages i only see a cancel button in the upper right and not the details button...

Select "Cancel". Afterwards, you will no longer be in "Edit" mode. Now select a message. You should see the "Details" option in the upper right corner of the screen.
