why can't i open my iphone by sliding my finger ? I also cannot slide to power off.

The screen says slide to unlock or slide to power off but nothing happens when I slide my finger.

Have you tried a hard reset. Hold the power and home button down at the same time until the Apple screen appears then release. See if that helps.
