How do I change a password for my voicemail if I didn't set a password up originally?

When I was setting up my iPhone 5s after I purchased it, I cancelled thru setting up a password for my voicemail. Now I'm not able to get my voicemail messages until I change my password but I have to enter my old password (which I don't have) so I can change it. I'm so confused!
