Why can't I copy a DVD on my Snow Leopard Mac ?

I recorded a concert from my TV onto a DVD. When I try to play it on my Mac, the Mac DVD drive just spins for several minutes. Then it stops and tells me the DVD is blank !! I know this is false because I can take the same DVD and play it on the DVD player connected to my TV.

What am I doing wrong ??

It may not be finalized by the DVD recorder you used such that it is readable by computers.
