How can I add my file folder pics to photos on my mac book?

I have a folder of pictures that are not showing up on photos, I tried copy an pasting but does not work. Please help!

If you have a Mac, initiate the Photos app, then go to the File menu and select "Import". Afterwards, select the folder containing the pics to import it.
