Where are the photos i uploaded to Photos on my mac?

I recently got a new macbook pro and I imported all my photos from my iPhone to Photos. I do not have much storage on my iPhone so i began deleting the pictures from my iPhone to free up space. I went back to Photos and some of the pictures are gone and some are not?
Any thoughts?

More than likely, the photos you deleted from your phone also deleted from all of your devices. When you deleted the pics, you should have gotten the message depicted in the below screenshot.

If you're syncing pictures across all of your devices, when you delete a photo on the iPhone it will remove it from all devices.
