I'm am missing call and text notifications. Do I need to reset anything?

I do not have any alerts on the phone,
my nephew played on my phone, and now if there is a call or message I missed it's doesn't appear
Do I need to reset the settings?

Maybe. Check the mute switch on the side of the device and check to make sure that the Do Not Disturb option is not enabled.
