Why aren't names showing up when people text me?

WHen i receive a text message from someone in my contact list only their phone number shows up, not their name. I have reset all my settings and it still is doing the same thing. People on my favorites list show up when they text. But not other peopleon my contact list.

I don't know. Disable syncing of the contacts and then re-enable it. Heck, try a simple reboot.

Could those people be texting you iMessage from their iPad? Is their email address used for iPad iMessage in their contact card?




I have the same issue after upgrading to El Capitan. Have checked contacts, and those are synched fine, and if I type a name into the 'compose' dialog in iMessage, I get the names, so it seems to be how it's displaying them, and not a synch issue.

Called Apple and they were very helpful and tried many things and looked at many possible causes and fixes.

Go into general settings and check your iCloud settings and Internet account settings. Make sure contacts is selected in iCloud and that the right email is active in Internet account settings.
