Two Apple Watchs on the same Apple account getting the message back from the sender

I just got his and her's Apple Watch and when my wife sends a message sometimes it sends it right back to her sometimes it doesn't, sometimes when I send a message to my wife it sends the message back to me why? We have the same email and same Apple account does that matter?

You should really each have your own Apple ID. From what I've read, this will help with most of these types of issues.
