In moving from iPhoto to Photos, titles for 3,000 photographs did not transfer.

Working on a MacBookPro with Yosemite. Installation of Yosemite already lost some pix in iPhoto, but Photos, when I switched my photo library over, describes each photograph as "untitled". Can those titles be recovered?

I don't think so. You may have to rename them yourself.
