Do you have a data plan of some sort? Knowing what kind of device you're trying to use would be helpful.

I was unable to send SMS and make calls on my old Note 1 one day(exactly when I needed to contact someone to meet him :/).
This was not a reception issue since all the other people around me were able to make calls.
So I reboot the phone and after that it worked.
But that's my Galaxy Note 1.

So the question is... did you turn it off and on?
