How do I disable VoiceOver on the iPad Air?

I went to the settings and turned voice over on not realizing what it would do

voice over has taken over my ipad how do i get rid of it it says to hit the home button to cancel but when i do this nothing happens I also cannot turn it off

Settings...General...Accessibility...voice over - Siwtch off.

thanks Keith but I cant get past my screen lock to get to settings this voice just keeps coming up saying to press the home button to cancel but when i do this nothing happens
