How do you prevent Facebook notifications from displaying while playing games on your device?

Hi, this ipad is my first apple device. I play alot of clash of clans, and whenever i play facebook messenger keeps giving me chat notifications on the top of the screen and they lg the game out. How do I disable notifications during games and possibly movies as well? Basically anything that's full screen. thanks!

Settings - Notifications - Facebook (I assume) and then disable the toggle next to "Allow Notifications".
