How to restart Apple tv when system won't show anything other than Apple logo

Apple TV won't go further than logo, can't access menu to reset, have switched off and on, tried remote tricks but still nothing, anyone got any ideas?

You could try unplugging and re-plugging it in. If that doesn't work, get a micro USB cable, connect it to your computer and reset it with iTunes.
