Via USB:

Take the lightning cable that came with your iPhone 5S, and connect one end to the bottom of the iPhone and the other end (USB) to an empty USB port on the laptop.

Via Bluetooth:

Enable Bluetooth on both the laptop and the iPhone 5S. Place of of the two in search mode, and when the other is detected, select to join it. Enter code, if necessary.
