I use a non-apple charger for my iPhone 5. Is that why I'm getting frequent pop-ups?

The message says "This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this iPhone". Is there a way to stop these pop-ups? If not, and I break down and buy the official Apple lightning cord, will the pop-ups stop?

It's better to spend the money on an Apple charger than to replace your device due to damage.
