Personal cloud used with new Photos app for Mac?

We have a WD personal cloud and would rather keep all my files on that, for free, than pay for iCloud storage - will the apps and Photos app reference to a personal cloud or only use Apples iCloud?

You can only back up to the icloud when using photo/ or apps. But you can pull photos and stuff from a different cloud to your machine and then use iphoto to manage.

My guess is the new Photos app will work with your set-up just as it is now with iPhoto. Using iCloud could be a great back-up to that.
