Is it safe to use an iPad 12w usb charger with my iPhone 6

I've heard that this would help charge my phone quickly...but I'm not sure if
a) it works
b) it's safe

I've used the iPad charging block with all my iPhone's from the 4S up & it's great! It charges extremely fast & there's no damage to any of my devices
