TimeMachine - external drive backup/restore

Dear All, I have a MBA late 2013 with 250GB SSD. Since I have a large iTunes and iPhoto library I keep them on an external drive. Both the internal SSD and the external HDD (2GB) has always been backed up via Time Machine.
Unfortunately the external drive is not working properly now hence I got a new one and would like to restore. However when I enter TM I can only see the files/folders from the internal storage, the external one is not visible. Is there a trick? Do I need to re-name my new external drive to the same name as the old one used to be? Thank you for your support in advance, Kind regards Scoubi

Yes, I have added it in settings when originally setting up the Time Machine (well actually removed it from the "Excluded items") in Time Machine preferences/options....

I wasn't aware that you could backup external drives with TimeMachine. My backups only contain stuff on my internal disk.
