Why do I get an error message when trying to upgrade my iPad mini 1st?

Upgrading my Ipad mini 1st

My Ipad mini 1st gen is on ios 6.0.1.... I have been trying to upgrade to 7.1 but have received error 3194 from ITunes. I'm not sure if I want to go to 8.1.3 yet due to a lot of the reviews read. Could someone please tell me if it is still possible to upgrade to 7.1 and if so how?

The only option is the last current version your device supports.... which is iOS8.1.3

OK, so no chance of going to 7.1. Correct? I hear 8.1.3 is running with a few problems on mini 1st gen.

It's fine on my 3rd Gen. iPad... full size... can't really say about the mini... don't know.
