I can get a first in time, a first in moves yet score only third or fourth. How does this scoring system work?

I don't know. If it were me, I'd assume the best source of information in that regard would be the developer(s) of the app. Having said that, locate the app in the App Store and get the developers' support information and try contacting them about this matter.
