I downloaded Yosemite on my mac it now refuses any access to mail, documents, contacts etc.

We have been told by apple we have to go back to factory settings and wipe the hard drive. We have icloud, the question is therefore will all the contacts kept in icloud be preserved if we wipe this main mac? We can access them on iphone and macbook pro, but just want to double check they will not be lost forever as they are the a business list of contacts. Thanks

You could also try to Export the contacts so that you have an extra copy just in case.
