Try holding in both buttons until you see the Apple logo.

Was it on a charger at the time?

Is it an Apple supplied, OEM or certified "made for i" charger and cable? If not - try those first... and if not, something may have happened that will require replacing the charging port at the very least - or the device may be beyond repair... you'll have to find a place that can diagnose and provide you with available options.
