Hi all,

I have an old Macbook Pro from April 2007 (don't laugh 😄), version
10.7.5 and running Lion. Does anyone know if I can upgrade to Yosemite? I can't seem to find an answer anywhere. I rarely use this laptop so I'd hate to have to buy another one! I mostly use my iPad (4th generation).

I don't fully understand how these things work yet, but don't I need a mac to connect certain features to the iPad?

I'd be so grateful for any help. Thanks!

Yes, Mid 2007 MacBook Pros are actually the oldest model that can run Yosemite. You should be able to update directly from the App Store since you already have Lion installed.

You don't need a Mac. iPads function just fine on their own. It is nice to have a desktop computer (either a Mac or a Windows PC) so that you can run iTunes as it has a lot of useful management features for the content on your iPad. It can also automate backups and updating for you.

There are a number of useful features for people who use both an iPad and a Mac but if you aren't really using a Mac at all in the first place, they likely aren't things you will miss.
