Is it coincidence that my last 2 iphones have died just when.........

Is it coincidence that my last 2 iphones have died just when my mobile phone contracts were up for renewal ith O2 (UK Mobile phone supplier)? I just find it incredible that whenever the contract is up for renwal I find myself in a no-win situation and I have to enter a new agreement because my current phone is knackered. Scam or no scam from O2/iPhone?

This is an urban myth that electronics are designed to last till said warranty runs out but I have to say I've had it happen once or twice with TVs and VCRs. So go figure
