Why won't my iPhone 5s connect to my computer?

iPhone 5s won't connect to my computer

I'm not sure if its the port on the computer (hp envy 15 touchsmart pc) or the usb cord. It will not connect at all, not even a notification that the device appeared on my computer. I need to connect to iTunes.

If it was the cord you wouldn't be able to charge your device so it's most likely the USB port on your computer. Check this by using a USB stick or other device. Also after you connect open iTunes manually and see if your 5s shows up in the top left corner
