Is my LCD broken?

A while back I smashed my iPhone 4 screen on gravel, well it worked perfectly fine for a long time. Then, part of the screen stopped working. Which wasn't too bad, I could still use it. But, of course, half of the screen decided it wanted to quit working. So therefore I wasn't able to use it anymore. Is my LCD or Digitizer broken? I know I need to replace the screen, but do I replace the LCD and Digitizer too? What do I do? Do I need a new iPhone?
