Why does my iPad mini/iPhone 6+ keeps disconnecting & reconnecting when connecting to MBA via lightning cable?

When I connect my iPad mini w/Retina display or iPhone 6 Plus to my MacBook Air 2013 via USB, it just keeps disconnect/reconnecting, I can't charge it and I can't sync it. When I using the same cable to charge both devices via power adapter it's fine. I found a related post on Apple forum but couldn't find a solution. Hopefully iMore folks can help. Thanks.

Either the USB port on your MacBook Air is defective or the USB cable is defective. Try using a new Apple-approved USB lightning cable. Also, feel free to make a Genius Bar appointment with the nearest Apple Store to have them diagnose the problem for you.
