How do I remove the background shading on my iphone?

I can't figure out how to remove the shading over my backgrounds near the top of the screen, it's quite unpleasant and I have been unsuccessful in removing it so far.

I'm on 8.1.2 and I do wish I could remove it.
I don't like what it does to my wallpaper.

thats weird, I don't see any shading either on my iPhone running 8.1.2

Yah ultimately it's really not a big deal. Considering the other issues I've had to deal with when using other phones. It's just a cosmetic thing that doesn't affect device usability.
