Getting unwanted text messages from an individual can specific numbers be blocked?

Yes, first save the number to your contacts then go to settings> messages> blocked> add new/ add the number and voila.

Tap a message from the person in the Messages app.. then Details in the upper right... tap the "i"... then scroll all the way to the bottom... Block...
