Why are Tweets in 2 sections on my iPhone

My iPad only shows tweets from those I'm Following plus a few spam. My iPhone 6 has an extra section below Following with a lot of Tweets from people I don't know and I don't know how to stop them.

Presumably it's due to a setting?

Which app? The Twitter official app or some other 3rd party app?

The 'official' app for me on the iPhone 6 has the Timelines with 3 screens... Home, which has stuff I follow, 'Discover' which is "Trending" plus a random compilation of stuff that is followed by people I follow... and "Activity"... where things retweeted or favorited by people I follow shows up...

I'm also on the official app (I didn't know there's unofficial ones) with the same pages.

Tweets in Timelines are separated by a thin blue line. When I switch on in the morning there's 15 to 30 tweets from people I don't know/spam, then 2 blue lines about 1/8th inch apart to show the end of the section and then messages from people I follow.

It looks as though the spam etc is separated out somehow?
