My iphone 5s completely died and will not even show the battery bar when I click the sleep button so after reading this article i realized that my charger may be a third-party charger, so if I go purchase an apple official charger will it work?

Just plug it back in and recharge it. Give it some time to get some juice in the battery, and then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button. If it doesn't turn on after this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and home button until you see the Apple logo.
