Why isn't restoring from Time Machine Hd working?

Restoring from Time Machine Hd is not working

from the OSinstaller the 'restoring" window comes up and tells me it is restoring, but there is no activity on the hard drive I am recovering from.
I've left it on overnight and still nothing....same window...just the curly thing going around and telling me that is it restoring from X onto B.

If you're doing a full system restore, it can take an overnight or longer...
