The iPhone will try and locate you via WIFI using a database of known locations tied to IP addresses... then it will go to cell towers... then its very own GPS chip... iPhone 6 & 6+ GPS chips are capable of receiving the US GPS satellites as well as the Russian GLONAS system for faster location and accuracy.
