My I-Pad seems to be frozen. What do I do?

I selected update when it came on the screen that an update was available.

Either during or after the update, the password screen came up and I put in my pass word. The apple symbol came up and a line began across the middle of the screen. It got about 3/4 of the way and quit. Now the I=Pad will do nothing. I can't even turn it off.

You can press and hold both the power and home buttons until you see the Apple logo. Your device should pick up where it left off. If not, you'll probably be prompted to connect to iTunes to restore and update.
