iOS update/upgrade behavior with supervised iOS devices

Hoping this is a simple question to answer...

We want to be able to put corporate-issued iOS devices in supervised mode using via Apple Configurator but also eliminate the need to re-tether the devices to the Mac after that. We'll be using an MDM product (MobileIron) for all other OTA configuration.

Questions:

What happens when an iOS update becomes available on a supervised device?

Do you have to re-tether devices to the AC Mac for iOS updates?

We've been unable to test since supervision via AC automatically updates the OS to the latest version and we don't have any devices that were placed under supervision prior to 8.1.2.

Thanks!

Re: iOS update/upgrade behavior with supervised iOS devices

Apple Configurator was created by Apple so it would be safe to say that updates won't be a hassle. You probably won't have to tether the devices to the Mac to update them.
