How does the family shared calendar work?

hello , iam using i phone 4s, and will upgrade the iOS from version 7 to iOS 8.1.2, so i am very interested to to use the share calendar system , but i am confusing , when i used family shared calendar, does it mean that all the events in my calendar will be shared with the others or only the selected ones?

As far as I know, the calendar will be shared with all "family" members. You can however prevent members from editing the calendar.
