Why isnt my new iphone 5s syncing with my computer?

I upgraded from an iphone 4 to an iphone 5s and i have tried to sync it with my computer and itunes and it wont! I have no idea why it wont read it. please could you help?

If your computer doesn't recognize your phone, try a different charging cable. If that doesn't work, try rebooting your computer.

Does your computer still recognize your old phone?
