Default Why does Time Machine say: "disk can't be erased" ?

I tried to recover from a previous Time Machine backup, stored on an external hard drive, a few days ago.
Everything's fine till I get to the choose of the destination drive . . . I choose the ssd where the os is now installed . . . and I get an error message, "something went wrong, this disk can't be erased".
