Jailbreak restore and activation with no service

I just bought a iPhone 4 from Craigslist that I'm looking to activate under Cricket, so basically AT&T, the phone had Cydia downloaded on it when I got it so I restored it about 3 times at this point and every time I do it goes back and forth between Searching and No Service but when I go to the settings it says that my carrier is cricket 16.1? So I'm completely confused as to why I'm not getting service. I don't have a working phone at this point so I need to figure this out as soon as possible.
