Why am I not able to print my iPhotos?

Problems with iPhoto and printing.

I have the latest version of Iphoto and when I click print I get a spinning color wheel but no printing. Last time I let it sit for 2 hours. the only way I can stop it is to turn my Mac Mini completely off and reboot. Anyone else experiencing this? I'm using an HP Officejet 4500 printer but this only started with the new upgrade.
