Why is my iPad 2 losing space by the hour?

Downloaded iOS 8.1 and then wanted space so downloaded about 3000 photos to Copy in Sep.Cleared a lot of emails,trash etc and have 5 apps extra which we need. Music hasn't got much on it. Even with no photos,videos when we clear space it's disappearing fast even when the ipad2 is completely switched off so something going on here. We have tried various things. Every time we go into it it's lost more space eg 235mb at 10am and now 200mb at 2pm without doing anything.
We're in our 60s so not up with IT and away in Panama so not near any computer store until end mid Dec.
Can someone help? Would be much appreciated. Thanks
