Why won't my iPad apps update?

My iPad apps won't update

I go to App Store and then updates. There used to be an "update all" selection but that no longer appears. When I select "update" next to any one of the apps it launches the app rather than updating it.

Any thoughts?

Are you jailbroken? Had this problem with my jailbroken iPod Touch 5 too.
